The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a temporary traffic disruption along the Kisumu Boys–Mamboleo (A1) road, scheduled to run from Thursday, August 7, 2025, to Friday, September 5, 2025. In a notice shared on X (formerly Twitter), KeNHA stated that the move is part of planned construction and improvement works aimed at enhancing the quality and safety of the road section.
During the one-month period, traffic will be diverted to one side of the dual carriageway to allow uninterrupted work on the affected stretch. KeNHA has assured road users that a traffic management plan will be in place and urged motorists to adhere to the temporary signage, as well as cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals deployed on site.
“This closure is necessary to facilitate scheduled road improvement works and ensure long-term benefits for road users. We appeal for patience and cooperation from the public as we work to enhance road infrastructure in the region,” the notice read in part.
The Kisumu Boys–Mamboleo section of the A1 highway is a critical transport link in the Western region, serving thousands of commuters daily, including schoolchildren, traders, and long-distance travelers. The road is also essential for access to Kisumu City and surrounding areas, making its improvement a priority for the highway authority.
KeNHA, established under the Kenya Roads Act of 2007 and operational since September 2008, is tasked with the development, maintenance, and management of all National Trunk Roads across the country, classified as Class S, A, and B roads. Headquartered in Nairobi, KeNHA operates through ten regional offices and three corridor management offices.
The authority has also achieved international recognition for quality management, having been certified ISO 9001:2008 in 2013 and later upgraded to ISO 9001:2015 in 2018. In addition to road management, KeNHA oversees all weighbridge operations across Kenya.
As the roadworks commence, motorists are advised to plan their journeys accordingly to avoid inconvenience and delays. The authority has reiterated its commitment to improving the country’s road network and ensuring safe and efficient transport for all.
