The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the temporary closure of a section of the Bomas–Kiserian Road for a period of two months to allow for scheduled roadworks.
The affected section stretches from Brookhouse/Galleria to the Catholic University of Eastern Africa junction. The closure will begin on Thursday, August 28, 2025, and is expected to last until Monday, October 20, 2025.
According to the notice, the traffic disruption has been necessitated by construction works involving the installation of two box culverts along the road. This is part of infrastructure improvement measures aimed at enhancing drainage and ensuring safer passage for both motorists and pedestrians in the area.
Alternative Routes
Motorists using the affected road have been urged to seek alternative routes during the construction period. KeNHA has provided a clear diversion plan, recommending the following options:
- Langata Road – Langata South Road – Kiboko Road – Banda Lane – Magadi Road
- Langata Road – Langata South Road – Kiboko Road – Mukoma Road – Magadi Road (near Shell Petrol Station)
Traffic marshals and police officers will be deployed on-site to guide road users and manage potential congestion. Motorists are advised to strictly follow diversion signs and cooperate with enforcement officers to minimize delays and enhance safety.
Expected Impact
The two-month closure is likely to affect traffic flow between Langata and Kiserian, a key commuter route that also serves institutions such as Brookhouse, Galleria Mall, and the Catholic University of Eastern Africa. Commuters and businesses in the area are therefore advised to plan ahead to avoid unnecessary inconvenience.
Despite the short-term disruption, the construction of the culverts is expected to significantly improve the road’s structural integrity, reduce flooding risks, and extend its lifespan. The authority has emphasized that the works are part of broader road improvement projects designed to modernize Kenya’s transport infrastructure.
Advisory to Motorists
KeNHA has called on motorists to exercise patience, adhere to traffic guidance, and make use of the suggested alternative routes. The authority also urged road users to remain alert to all road signs and safety instructions issued during the construction period.
The Bomas–Kiserian Road closure highlights the ongoing efforts to enhance Nairobi’s road network, with long-term benefits outweighing the temporary inconveniences.
