The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the temporary closure of a section of the Madogo–Bura–Hola (B89) Road after heavy floods washed away part of the route at Duka Notu in Tana River County.
In a public notice dated October 30, KeNHA stated that traffic flow along the busy highway remains disrupted due to flooding, which has rendered the affected section impassable. Motorists have been warned to exercise extreme caution and avoid attempting to cross flooded areas.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that traffic flow along Madogo–Bura–Hola (B89) Road still remains closed, having been cut by floods at Duka Notu,” read the statement signed by Acting Director General Eng. Luka Kimeli.
KeNHA advised motorists to use an alternative route through Nanighi and rejoin the B89 at Cheredende as repair works continue. Teams from the authority are already on-site assessing the extent of the damage and undertaking necessary measures to reopen the road as soon as possible.
The Madogo–Bura–Hola road is a vital link connecting Tana River County’s administrative and agricultural zones, serving as a key corridor for the movement of goods and passengers between Madogo, Bura, Hola, and surrounding areas. Its closure is expected to temporarily disrupt transport and supply chains in the region.
The authority reiterated its commitment to maintaining safe and reliable road networks despite the ongoing challenges posed by heavy rains across the country.
Heavy rainfall has been pounding several parts of Kenya over the past two weeks. The Kenya Meteorological Department recently warned of continued heavy downpours—exceeding 50mm in some areas—which could result in localized flooding and traffic disruptions.
KeNHA has urged the public to remain patient and vigilant as restoration works continue to reinstate safe passage along the affected route.
