The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced new consultancy vacancies for community health awareness and sensitization campaigns in the ongoing Sh197 billion Lesseru–Kitale and Morpus–Lokichar Road Upgrading Project.
In a notice issued on Tuesday, October 7, KeNHA revealed that it is seeking consultancy services aimed at integrating health and gender awareness programs into the road construction process. The consultancy will focus on key public health areas including HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), tuberculosis (TB), malaria, mental health, substance abuse, and reproductive health.
According to the authority, the initiative is part of efforts to promote gender mainstreaming and to ensure the safety and well-being of both construction workers and local communities living along the project corridor.
“The Government of the Republic of Kenya has received financing from the African Development Bank (AfDB) to finance the Multinational: Kenya–South Sudan Road Corridor, Lesseru–Kitale and Morpus–Lokichar Road Upgrading Project Phase 1,” KeNHA stated in the notice.
The project, covering approximately 197 kilometers, forms a key part of the Kenya–South Sudan transport corridor. It stretches from Lesseru through Nadapal and Kapoeta, before connecting to Juba, South Sudan. Once complete, the corridor will enhance regional integration, boost trade, and promote economic growth across the Great Rift Valley region.
KeNHA emphasized that part of the AfDB funding will be used to support the consultancy work, which is expected to strengthen public health outreach and minimize social risks during project implementation.
Interested and qualified consultants have been invited to submit their proposals in accordance with the African Development Bank procurement guidelines.
The road corridor is part of the government’s broader agenda to improve infrastructure while promoting community health and sustainable development in project areas.
