The incident occurred aboard flight KQ 003, which had departed from John F. Kennedy International Airport en route to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi.
The airline reported that the medical emergency occurred at approximately 8:40 am Nairobi time. According to the statement, the passenger collapsed while the aircraft was mid-air, prompting the flight crew to initiate emergency medical protocols. Three qualified medical professionals who happened to be traveling on the flight volunteered to assist in the resuscitation efforts.
The cabin crew and the onboard medical personnel worked together using all available onboard medical equipment in accordance with international aviation medical procedures. Despite their combined efforts to stabilize the passenger, the individual was declared deceased at 9:10 am East African Time, before the aircraft could land.
In an attempt to access urgent medical assistance, the flight was diverted toward Entebbe International Airport in Uganda. However, the diversion did not result in additional medical support being administered, as the passenger had already been pronounced dead by the attending professionals.
Following the confirmation of the fatality, the flight crew made the decision to resume the original route to Nairobi. The aircraft ultimately landed safely at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at 10:27 am.
