Kenya has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming Nairobi’s urban transport system through a collaborative initiative with G7 partners and other international development allies. The pledge was made during a high-level engagement held at the Railways Headquarters, where Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi led discussions on advancing key pilot programs aimed at easing congestion and improving mobility across the Nairobi Metropolitan Area.
Mudavadi was accompanied by Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir as the government presented a detailed review of strategic transport initiatives. These include efforts to improve connectivity, reduce travel time, enhance public safety, and transition the capital toward a more sustainable and inclusive urban environment.
Representatives from the diplomatic corps and development agencies, led by British High Commissioner Neil Wigan, OBE, expressed strong support for Kenya’s ongoing efforts. They applauded the government’s vision for a modernized and greener transport network that aligns with global best practices and the sustainable development goals.
Mudavadi reiterated the government’s dedication to reshaping Nairobi’s transport infrastructure, describing the reforms as central to Kenya’s broader development agenda. He emphasized the need for smarter, safer, and more efficient transport systems that meet the needs and aspirations of all Kenyans.
“We remain steadfast in advancing these programmes as a critical pillar of Kenya’s development journey,” Mudavadi said. “Our mission is clear: to deliver smarter, safer, and more efficient transport solutions that meet the aspirations of all Kenyans.”
He also called on all stakeholders to maintain the momentum and deepen their partnerships, noting that collaborative efforts are essential in creating a well-connected and environmentally friendly city that supports economic growth and enhances the quality of life.
“Together, let us continue charting the path toward a better connected, greener, and more livable Nairobi for generations to come,” Mudavadi urged.
