The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced a six-month closure of a section of Links Road in Nyali, Mombasa County, beginning Friday, August 1, 2025, and running through to Friday, January 30, 2026. The closure is part of a major infrastructure upgrade aimed at tackling persistent flooding and drainage issues that have long plagued the area.
In its official statement, KURA emphasized that the construction project is crucial to improving road safety and preventing disruptions caused by waterlogging during rainy seasons. The project will involve extensive civil works, including the installation of modern drainage systems to ensure long-term resilience against flooding.
Motorists have been advised to adhere to traffic guidelines and follow all signs and instructions during the period. Traffic police and marshals will be stationed in the area to assist road users and maintain smooth vehicle flow. A traffic management plan has been developed and shared to help guide alternative routes and reduce congestion around the affected section.
“We regret any inconvenience this may cause but request patience and cooperation from all road users. This project is part of our broader mission to transform urban mobility through sustainable and efficient road infrastructure,” KURA noted.
KURA is a state agency responsible for the management, development, rehabilitation, and maintenance of public roads within urban areas, excluding national highways. The agency oversees an urban road network spanning approximately 4,625 kilometers across the country, including both paved and unpaved roads.
