As Kenyans prepare for the upcoming Christmas festivities, the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has issued a strong warning to motorists to strictly observe road signs.
In a statement on Sunday, November 9, KURA Director General Silas Kinoti emphasized that drivers who violate traffic regulations will be apprehended by security officers, with legal action taken against them. He further highlighted that KURA engineers will intensify inspections of road construction sites to ensure that contractors install all required signage.
“Drivers must observe all road signs as we head into the festive season. As the authority building these roads, I expect full discipline on site. Contractors must install all required signage — no excuses. Our engineers will enforce compliance,” Kinoti said.
Failure to comply with road signage not only violates the law but also increases the risk of accidents and traffic disruptions, especially during periods of high travel like the festive season. Kinoti added, “Safety is our shared responsibility. We are delivering the roads Kenya deserves.”
Traffic disruptions are already evident on key routes, such as Thika Road, highlighting the importance of following road instructions.
In a related development, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja assured the public that security agencies are implementing strategies to ensure safety during the December holidays. Kanja stated that he will hold regular consultations with regional commanders and intelligence units to monitor emerging threats.
“We must periodically come together to strategize and remain a step ahead of offenders. We are hopeful that, as the festive season draws closer, all Kenyans will enjoy adequate security,” Kanja said.
The police chief also stressed professionalism and respect for citizens’ rights during enforcement operations. “When we all work together, we have intelligence-led operations. Everyone contributes, ensuring unity of purpose and success,” he added.
Both KURA and the police call on Kenyans to exercise caution, follow traffic rules, and cooperate with authorities to ensure a safe and incident-free festive season.
