The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has moved to address public concerns surrounding temporary hoarding walls recently erected along Kenyatta Avenue in Nairobi. These structures, which have drawn considerable attention from residents and motorists, are part of an ongoing project aimed at improving road safety and urban mobility during a critical construction phase.
According to KURA, the temporary hoarding walls are standard safety features implemented to protect pedestrians and drivers from potential construction-related hazards. These include falling debris, heavy machinery, and dust generated during the active development of the Valley Road–Kenyatta Avenue/Ngong Road/Nyerere Road Interchange. The authority emphasized that the walls are not permanent and are continuously monitored to maintain the highest safety standards.
Kenyatta Avenue is one of Nairobi’s busiest and most strategic roads, serving as a key arterial route through the city. The construction works underway are part of a broader urban road modernization initiative designed to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity in the capital. In this context, KURA has clarified that the hoarding is a protective barrier commonly used in major infrastructure projects to delineate construction zones and minimize risks to the public.
The clarification comes amid a wave of public speculation, with some residents raising questions about the purpose and safety of the hoarding walls. Addressing these concerns, KURA reiterated that public safety is a central focus in all phases of the project. The authority also confirmed the resumption of works at other major intersections, including the Upper Hill–Haile Selassie Overpass and related access roads.
The roadworks form part of a larger strategy to transform Nairobi’s transport landscape, targeting reduced travel times and improved access to key urban areas. KURA has thanked Nairobi residents for their patience and cooperation as the projects progress, acknowledging the temporary inconveniences caused by the construction.
Residents are encouraged to remain cautious around active construction zones and to stay informed through official updates. The authority continues to call for public understanding, assuring that all construction activities are guided by stringent safety protocols and a long-term vision of improved urban mobility.
As work on the Kenyatta Avenue corridor advances, the public is urged to prioritize safety and support efforts to enhance infrastructure that will ultimately benefit all city users.
