Kenya Railways has announced changes to the Madaraka Express Passenger Service schedule for the Nairobi–Suswa route, effective Friday, August 1, 2025. The new timetable is aimed at improving travel convenience for passengers along the route, particularly in Ngong, Rongai, Mai Mahiu, and Suswa.
According to the revised schedule, the Nairobi to Suswa train will now depart from the Nairobi Terminus at 8:50 am. The train will make stops at Rongai at 9:14 am, departing at 9:19 am; Ngong at 9:34 am, leaving at 9:39 am; and Mai Mahiu at 10:24 am, departing three minutes later. It is expected to arrive in Suswa at 10:55 am.
The return journey from Suswa will begin at 4:05 pm. The train will arrive at Mai Mahiu at 4:30 pm, departing at 4:33 pm, then stop at Ngong between 5:20 pm and 5:25 pm, and at Rongai from 5:40 pm to 5:45 pm. It will conclude the trip in Nairobi at 6:10 pm.
“Travel just got more convenient!” Kenya Railways stated in its official announcement on Thursday.
Tickets for the Madaraka Express Passenger Service are available through multiple platforms. Travelers can purchase them online via https://metickets.krc.co.ke, at station counters, or by using the USSD code *639# on a Safaricom line. Ticket bookings can be made up to 60 days in advance, with options for return tickets as long as both journeys fall within that window.
Each ticket is valid only for the specified train, date, and time. Boarding a different train than the one indicated will incur a 30% penalty in addition to the applicable fare. All tickets are issued in the passenger’s name and must match the identification document presented at boarding.
