A tragic road accident in Donholm, Nairobi, led to a violent response from angry residents after a boda boda rider was fatally knocked down by a bus. The incident occurred on the morning of August 7, 2025, when the bus reportedly hit the rider, killing him instantly.
Following the fatal crash, a mob quickly gathered at the scene and set the bus ablaze. The passengers and crew had already fled, escaping before the mob took action. By the time authorities arrived, the vehicle was engulfed in flames. The mob responsible for the fire had already dispersed, and no arrests had been reported by the time of the police briefing.
The body of the deceased rider was taken to a local mortuary, where an autopsy and further investigations are expected to be conducted. The event highlights growing concerns over the rise of mob justice in Kenya, especially in the wake of traffic-related fatalities.
In a separate, equally tragic incident, a journalist is mourning the loss of his parents who died in a road crash along the Narok-Bomet Highway. The couple, aged 65 and above, was en route to Thika Town to attend their son’s graduation ceremony at Mount Kenya University when their saloon car collided head-on with an oncoming lorry.
The accident took place in the Ololunga area on the afternoon of August 6. Witnesses reported that the saloon car was overtaking a line of vehicles when it crashed into a Toyota Dyna lorry. The father died at the scene, while the mother was rushed to the hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. The lorry driver sustained injuries and was admitted to Narok County Referral Hospital.
Both vehicles involved in the crash were towed to a nearby police station as investigations continue. The deceased were among eight people who lost their lives in various road accidents across the country on that day.
In addition to the fatalities, at least 21 others were injured, including drivers, passengers, riders, and pedestrians. The incidents underscore the urgent need for improved road safety measures, driver discipline, and public education on safe road usage to prevent further loss of life.
