Moja Expressway Company has dismissed reports circulating online alleging that sections of the Nairobi Expressway had been temporarily closed ahead of the arrival of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The company, in a statement to Kenyans.co.ke on Thursday, August 21, 2025, clarified that the information did not originate from its official communication channels and was therefore false. It assured motorists and the public that the Nairobi Expressway remained fully operational, with no interruptions to traffic flow.
“The Nairobi Expressway is operating normally. We urge members of the public to verify any information concerning operations on our official page,” the company stated.
The fake announcement, which bore Thursday’s date, claimed that parts of the road had been closed to allow an “unplanned procession” by Gachagua’s supporters. The company reiterated that such claims were misleading and potentially disruptive to commuters who rely on the expressway for timely travel.
This clarification comes at a time when misinformation on social media has increasingly been used to stir political narratives. Analysts warn that such falsehoods can create unnecessary panic among motorists and undermine trust in critical infrastructure operators.
Moja Expressway has encouraged Kenyans to remain vigilant and cross-check any communication attributed to the company. The firm emphasized that all official updates regarding road usage, maintenance, or emergencies are disseminated through its verified channels.
Motorists were advised to ignore the viral notice and continue using the expressway as normal.
