The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the full restoration of traffic flow along the Njoro–Mau Summit (B129) Road after weeks of closure to facilitate pavement reconstruction works.
The road had been temporarily closed on October 9, 2025, with the closure point located about one kilometre past Keringet Factory and two kilometres before Molo Town. During this period, motorists were directed to use a diversion route, although lorries and long trucks were restricted due to a sharp curve along the alternative path.
In a statement, KeNHA thanked the public for their patience and cooperation during the roadworks, emphasizing its commitment to maintaining a safe, reliable, and efficient national road network. “We appreciate the public for their understanding during the construction period,” the Authority said.
Motorists traveling to Molo and Mau Summit were earlier advised to use the Nakuru–Mau Summit (A8) Road via Kibunja Junction during the closure.
Meanwhile, KeNHA has clarified that no tenders have yet been awarded for the Nairobi–Nakuru–Mau Summit and Rironi–Maai Mahiu–Naivasha road projects. The Authority stated that the Public Private Partnership (PPP) Committee’s concurrence only allows it to begin negotiations with the preferred bidder.
“Kindly note that the PPP Committee has not yet approved the award for implementation of the project,” said Acting Director-General Luka Kimeli. “All progress updates are being disclosed publicly in line with the PPP Act and the National Treasury guidelines.”
The two major highway projects covering approximately 175 kilometres of the A8 Road (Rironi–Nakuru–Mau Summit) and 58 kilometres of the A8 South Road (Rironi–Maai Mahiu–Naivasha) are expected to ease congestion, enhance safety, and support regional trade once completed.
