The National Land Commission (NLC) has issued a formal notice for the acquisition of land for the Nyali Bridge-Mtwapa-Kwa Kadzengo-Kilifi Road Project in Mombasa County. In a gazette notice dated November 14, NLC Chairperson Gershom Otachi stated that the changes are being made on behalf of the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), which is responsible for overseeing the road’s construction.
The commission plans to delete eight parcels of land and add 19 new parcels to accommodate the project. In addition, corrections will be made to 22 other parcels that were previously either added or deleted.
“In pursuance of the Land Act and previous Gazette Notices Nos. 8482, 10259 of 2020, 14011, 14012 of 2021, 16000 of 2022, and 1641 of 2023, the National Land Commission intends to acquire additional parcels of land on behalf of KeNHA,” the notice read.
Chairperson Otachi urged affected landowners to visit NLC offices in Nairobi or the County Co-ordinator’s Offices in Kilifi and Mombasa to view plans for the affected parcels.
The commission also announced that compensation claims for affected landowners will be heard between January 20-23, 2026. The specific time, date, and venue details are available in the gazette notice. Landowners are required to submit written compensation claims along with supporting documents, including identification, proof of ownership, and bank account details.
This announcement follows a similar notice by the NLC three weeks ago for the acquisition of a 0.1818-hectare parcel of land in Nairobi for the Eastern Missing Link Road Project, which will be overseen by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA).
The NLC continues to emphasize transparency in the land acquisition process, ensuring that affected parties are informed and compensated according to the provisions of the Land Act, 2012.
