The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has directed motorists to confirm the progress of their number plate and smart driving licence applications through its newly enhanced Service Status Portal.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, August 19, the Authority explained that the portal is accessible via the eCitizen platform and provides motorists with real-time updates on their applications. To use the service, applicants are required to log in, navigate to the Service Status section, and submit their details.
According to NTSA, the process has been simplified to ensure efficiency. Motorists applying for smart driving licences will need to enter their National Identity (ID) number, while those tracking number plate applications are required to submit their vehicle registration number. Once details are shared, the request is automatically forwarded to the applicant’s designated collection centre in the form of a complaint, ensuring quicker follow-up.
“Click on servicestatus.ntsa.go.ke and share your details and submit; this will go directly to your collection centre as a complaint,” NTSA stated, emphasizing its commitment to reducing delays and addressing customer frustrations.
The clarification follows rising inquiries from Kenyans seeking to know how long NTSA takes to process licences and number plates. The Authority has not disclosed fixed timelines but assured applicants that the portal will enhance transparency and accountability in service delivery.
The directive comes against the backdrop of NTSA’s June 15 notice requiring all national and county government entities to register their vehicles and transition to the new reflective number plates. The deadline for compliance is set for August 29, after which a nationwide enforcement operation will begin, and vehicles without the new plates risk impoundment.
NTSA noted that the improved portal now accommodates bulk transactions, a move aimed at easing the application process for institutions. Government entities seeking to apply must create an e-Agent account and submit an official letter to NTSA before proceeding.
The rollout of the service status portal is part of the government’s wider strategy to curb vehicle theft and other crimes, while streamlining access to critical transport services.
