The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has announced extended working hours this weekend to speed up the issuance and collection of the new reflective number plates by government entities.
In a notice issued on Friday, August 29, the Authority revealed that its Nairobi office would remain open on Saturday, August 30, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. The move is aimed at enabling National and County Government agencies to collect their processed reflective plates in line with the government’s directive on standardised vehicle identification.
Ordinarily, NTSA offices remain closed on weekends, only opening during special events to clear backlogs. “The NTSA Nairobi office will be open on Saturday, 30th August, from 9 am to 3 pm to facilitate the collection of reflective number plates by National and County Government Entities,” the Authority stated.
NTSA further urged all government parastatals that have yet to submit their applications for the plates to do so by August 29. Those experiencing technical difficulties in the application process were advised to forward their concerns to numberplates@ntsa.go.ke for assistance.
The Authority emphasized that the application process is conducted exclusively through the NTSA online service portal. Clients are only required to visit physical offices to return old number plates and collect the newly processed reflective plates.
This development follows NTSA’s recent unveiling of a dedicated digital platform that allows motorists to check the status of their number plate or driving license applications. The platform, launched on Tuesday, August 19, is accessible via the eCitizen portal. Motorists can track the progress of their applications using either their vehicle registration numbers (for plates) or national identification numbers (for driving licenses).
According to NTSA, once an inquiry is made on the portal, it is automatically relayed to the relevant collection centre as a complaint for expedited processing.
The reflective number plate rollout is part of the government’s wider efforts to enhance road safety, curb fraud, and improve vehicle identification systems across the country.
