The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has launched a new Duty Update Module, a digital platform aimed at enhancing the process of updating motor vehicle and motorcycle records. This development is expected to simplify the verification of duty status and improve the accuracy of vehicle data in NTSA’s database.
The new module is designed to support a wide range of users, including private motor vehicle and motorcycle owners, financial institutions, insurance companies, government agencies, vehicle dealers, and corporations. By enabling more efficient record management, NTSA hopes to improve transparency, streamline operations, and deliver faster service to the public.
To facilitate the duty status and records update process, NTSA has outlined several documentation requirements. Applicants must submit a duty/records update request letter, which must include the contact details of the motor vehicle owner such as a phone number and email address. The authority will stamp a copy of this letter as confirmation of receipt. Other required documents include a copy of the owner’s national identification card, the original logbook for the motor vehicle or motorcycle, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) entry document, and the duty payment receipt.
Once the documents are submitted and verified at NTSA offices, the verification and update process will be carried out within seven working days. The processing period officially begins once all necessary documents are confirmed to be in order. Importantly, this service is offered free of charge.
After successful processing, NTSA will notify the registered vehicle or motorcycle owner through its official communication channels. Owners will then be required to collect their original documents from the NTSA office where the application was lodged.
Document collection will be available from Monday to Friday, between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, excluding public holidays. NTSA has also cautioned that it will not be responsible for documents submitted to unauthorized individuals or locations.
This initiative reflects NTSA’s ongoing commitment to leveraging digital tools to improve service delivery and ensure that all vehicle-related data remains accurate, secure, and easily accessible for both individuals and institutions.
