The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has issued a public appeal to vehicle owners across Kenya to collect thousands of unclaimed logbooks lying idle in its offices. In a notice released on Friday, the Authority expressed concern over the large number of registration certificates that remain uncollected, despite being ready for distribution.
“Thousands of logbooks remain uncollected across NTSA offices. We request motor vehicle owners to collect their logbooks from the centres identified during the application process,” the notice read.
NTSA emphasized that the logbook collection process is free of charge, and vehicle owners are only required to present their previous logbook and their national identification card at the designated collection centre. No additional fees or hidden charges are involved.
Motorists are encouraged to verify their vehicle details online by logging into the eCitizen platform, selecting the NTSA Service Portal (New), and viewing their motor vehicle information. All vehicle-related data can also be accessed through the registration certificate or logbook.
This move is part of the NTSA’s broader Usalama Barabarani initiative, which focuses on enhancing road safety and efficient service delivery.
How to Apply for a Duplicate Logbook
In the event of a lost or damaged logbook, the NTSA has also provided a clear process for applying for a duplicate logbook.
Applicants are required to have:
- A police abstract
- An affidavit
- A tape lift report
The process begins with logging into the eCitizen account and accessing the NTSA Service Portal (New). From there, the applicant should select motor vehicle services and proceed to the duplicate logbook application.
After selecting the reason for the duplicate, applicants must upload the required documents in one PDF file and choose a preferred logbook collection office. Details of the authorized person for collection must also be entered.
The final steps include accepting the declaration, previewing the application, submitting it, and making the necessary payment. Once complete, the duplicate logbook can be collected within three working days.
NTSA continues to stress the importance of vehicle owners keeping their documentation up to date for legal compliance and smoother service delivery.
