Operations at New York’s LaGuardia Airport continued smoothly Wednesday night despite a collision between two planes operated by Delta subsidiary Endeavor Air. The incident, which took place at 9:58 p.m. (0158 GMT Thursday), left one person injured but did not cause significant disruption at one of the busiest airports in the United States.
According to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the collision happened when one Endeavor Air jet was landing and another was preparing for departure. Preliminary findings suggest that the wing of the departing aircraft made contact with the fuselage of the arriving plane.
Delta confirmed the details, describing the event as a “low-speed collision during taxi.” The airline said a flight attendant suffered a minor injury and was taken to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. In total, the two aircraft were carrying 93 passengers and crew at the time of the accident.
Images circulating in U.S. media, though not immediately verified, appeared to show damage to the nose of one of the jets involved. Despite the incident, the Port Authority stated that flight operations at LaGuardia remained uninterrupted, allowing the airport to continue handling flights as scheduled.
Delta emphasized its commitment to safety, noting that it would fully cooperate with authorities to review the matter and implement any necessary safety measures. “Nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and crew,” the airline said in its statement.
The incident highlights the challenges of managing high traffic at major airports such as LaGuardia, where limited runway space and frequent aircraft movement demand strict adherence to safety protocols.
While investigations are ongoing, officials have reassured the public that there was no broader threat to airport operations. For passengers, flights in and out of LaGuardia are continuing as normal.
