President William Ruto has officially launched the rehabilitation of the 3.1-kilometre Bridge Savannah–Stage 17 Masimba Road in Embakasi East Constituency, Nairobi, as part of a broader infrastructure development strategy aimed at transforming the capital city into a global hub.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Ruto emphasized his administration’s commitment to modernizing Nairobi’s road network to ease congestion, promote trade, and stimulate economic activity. “We have rolled out a comprehensive plan that will change the face of Nairobi to make it a top global hub,” the President said.
The Bridge Savannah–Stage 17 Masimba Road project is being implemented by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) and is a key component of an expansive infrastructure upgrade that also includes maintenance of Jogoo Road and Landhies Road. The tender notice for the project was issued in November 2024, signaling the government’s accelerated pace in delivering key development promises.
The first phase of the urban roads initiative will see the construction of at least 70 kilometres of roads across Nairobi. These efforts are designed to ease traffic gridlock in the city and improve the overall urban transport experience.
President Ruto also announced a Sh5 million contribution towards the completion of a local hospital in Embakasi East, underlining the government’s focus on expanding access to quality healthcare alongside infrastructure development.
He was accompanied by key leaders, including Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, who welcomed the development and pledged to work closely with the national government in improving service delivery within the county.
The project is expected to significantly benefit residents by improving road conditions, reducing travel time, and enhancing business operations in the area. It underscores the government’s resolve to deliver tangible results under its Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.
