Two people lost their lives in a tragic accident at Makutano early Sunday morning. A Toyota Probox ferrying miraa collided head-on with a boda boda. The boda boda rider died on the spot, and the Probox driver also lost his life.
Speeding and Reckless Driving
Witnesses said the Probox was racing another vehicle to reach Nairobi’s miraa markets. Both cars took up both lanes, leaving no space for oncoming traffic. One witness said:
“They were overtaking recklessly. The Probox collided head-on with a boda boda coming from the opposite direction. There was no space. The rider died instantly.”
The Probox was heavily damaged on the driver’s side, making survival unlikely.
Dangerous Black Spot
Residents say Makutano is a dangerous stretch of road. They are calling on authorities to expand the road or install speed bumps. Many claim speeding and reckless driving are common in the area.
Another Accident Less Than 24 Hours Earlier
This is the second major accident in less than 24 hours. On Saturday afternoon, a bus ferrying Gor Mahia Football Club fans crashed at Kimende along the Nairobi–Naivasha highway. The bus reportedly lost control while speeding, veered off the road, and overturned. Several passengers were injured.
Call for Road Safety
Road safety experts warn that speeding and reckless driving are major causes of accidents in Kenya. Locals are urging authorities to act quickly to prevent further tragedies along busy highways.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement about the Probox crash.
