A serious road accident occurred near Engen-Makongeni in Thika on Sunday, November 9, 2025, involving two public service vehicles (PSVs) and a private car. The crash caused panic among nearby motorists, prompting immediate rescue efforts by well-wishers and emergency responders.
Photos and videos circulating on social media showed the damaged vehicles and a large crowd gathered at the scene as rescuers worked to assist the injured. Ambulances arrived moments later, rushing several victims to nearby hospitals for medical attention.
At the time of reporting, authorities had not confirmed the exact number of casualties. Police officers and emergency personnel remained at the site to control traffic and assess the situation. Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the collision, with officials urging motorists to exercise caution.
The accident comes just a day after Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja issued safety instructions to officers ahead of the festive season. Speaking during a service at the Holy Family Minor Basilica in Nairobi on Saturday, November 8, IG Kanja emphasized the importance of vigilance during the busy holiday period.
“May I state that the festive season is fast approaching. This is usually the most challenging period, requiring a more vibrant approach in matters of security and traffic flows,” Kanja said.
He urged drivers to plan their trips early, avoid speeding, and strictly adhere to traffic regulations to prevent such tragedies. The Inspector General also reminded officers to uphold professionalism and discipline under the National Police Service motto, Service with Dignity.
As police continue to monitor the Engen-Makongeni crash site, motorists have been advised to remain cautious on the roads, especially as travel activities increase ahead of the festive season.
