Motorists in Nairobi should brace for significant traffic disruptions along Jogoo Road and Nyasa Road from 10:00 PM on Friday, July 18, to 11:00 PM on Monday, July 21, 2025. This follows a notice issued by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), which announced the temporary road closures to facilitate critical culvert installation works.
According to KURA, the culvert works form part of a broader infrastructure improvement initiative aimed at enhancing urban drainage systems and easing congestion in high-traffic areas. The installation is expected to boost road durability and mitigate the frequent flooding experienced during the rainy seasons.
In its public statement, KURA expressed regret over the inconvenience the closures may cause and urged the public to remain patient. “We apologise for any inconvenience caused as we continue to transform urban mobility,” read the statement.
Jogoo and Nyasa roads are among the city’s busiest and most crucial transport corridors, connecting central Nairobi to densely populated residential and commercial areas. The temporary closure is likely to affect thousands of daily commuters and public transport operators.
Motorists have been advised to exercise caution near the affected sections, adhere to all posted signage, and follow diversion routes where necessary. To manage the traffic flow and assist road users, KURA confirmed that traffic police and marshals will be deployed to the area throughout the project duration.
KURA operates under the Ministry of Roads and Transport and is tasked with the development, rehabilitation, and maintenance of urban road infrastructure across Kenya. The agency has remained steadfast in its commitment to modernising transport networks, ensuring efficient traffic management, and improving road safety.
As infrastructure development continues to shape the future of Nairobi’s transport landscape, KURA has called on the public for understanding and cooperation. Road users are encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly during the four-day disruption and explore alternative routes where possible.
The authority reaffirmed that these upgrades are necessary steps toward creating a safer and more efficient urban transport system for all Nairobi residents.
