The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a two-week traffic disruption along the Thika-Kilimambogo (A3) Road to allow for essential carriageway rehabilitation works. The disruption will take effect from Friday, November 14, 2025, to Monday, December 1, 2025.
The works will affect both Kilimambogo- and Thika-bound lanes, prompting the authority to issue a traffic diversion plan for motorists. “Both Kilimambogo-bound traffic and Thika-bound traffic will be diverted as indicated on the Traffic diversion plan,” KeNHA stated.
The Thika-Kilimambogo Road is a key artery connecting the busy Thika Superhighway to eastern regions. The A3 Highway starts in Thika Town, which links to the A2 route connecting Nairobi, Thika, Kenol, and Sagana. It then continues eastward past Kilimambogo toward Matuu, Mwingi, Garissa, and Liboi at the Somalia border.
Motorists traveling from Thika to Kilimambogo will be diverted a few meters away from Gatuanyaga Market, while those heading from Kilimambogo to Thika will encounter diversions a few meters outside Kilimambogo Center. The diversion will create a two-way single carriage, replacing the usual A3 dual carriageway, which could cause delays.
KeNHA has urged all road users to follow the diversion plan and comply with directions from traffic marshals. “Motorists are requested to exercise caution around the work areas, to follow the proposed traffic management plan, and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site,” the authority emphasized.
This disruption is expected to significantly affect motorists accessing Nairobi via the Thika Superhighway. Travelers are advised to plan their routes in advance and allow extra time for their journeys to avoid congestion.
By adhering to the diversion plan and traffic guidance, motorists can ensure safety and reduce delays during the rehabilitation period.
