A tragic road accident along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway has claimed the life of a pedestrian after a vehicle lost control and veered off the road. The incident occurred near the Dinlas Pharma area, where the driver, in a yet-to-be-determined mishap, swerved left off the road and struck two pedestrians who were standing beside the road.
According to authorities, the impact of the collision was severe, dragging the two pedestrians for a distance before throwing them into a roadside ditch. Both victims sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital in Syokimau for emergency treatment. Unfortunately, one of them succumbed to the injuries and was later taken to the facility’s mortuary, awaiting transfer to another mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
In a separate incident reported in Nyamache sub-county, a 19-year-old man was discovered dead in what is believed to be a suicide. The young man had been reported missing for six days before his lifeless body was found inside his locked rental house. Residents, concerned by his prolonged absence, forced entry into the house only to discover his body lying on the floor.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased had used a mosquito net to end his life. The net was found around his neck, with the other end tied to the roof of the house. No visible injuries were reported on the body, which was moved to a local hospital morgue, where it awaits a postmortem examination to confirm the cause of death.
Meanwhile, in Tharaka Nithi County, a disturbing case of mob justice has raised alarm after the body of an unidentified middle-aged man was found in Chuka forest, Gachakoni village. The man appeared to have been brutally attacked and partially burnt. His left hand had been severed at the wrist, and his legs were tightly bound with a sisal rope.
Initial investigations suggest that the man may have been targeted by suspected motorcycle taxi operators on allegations of theft. Authorities responded to the scene alongside local administration and forensic teams. The body was moved to the county referral hospital mortuary for further examination and identification.
These three unrelated incidents highlight the growing concerns around road safety, mental health, and the dangers of mob justice across different regions of the country. Each case is currently under police investigation, with authorities urging members of the public to report crimes to law enforcement agencies rather than resorting to violence.
