Motorists were left in shock on Saturday, September 21, after a vehicle overturned along Nairobi’s busy Outering Road.
Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle rolled and landed upside down, with the driver reportedly dying on the spot. However, police had not confirmed the fatality at the time of reporting.
“They have just rolled over from up there, and you can see it is upside down; the driver has gone, and everything has stopped,” one of the witnesses said.
By press time, no police or rescue teams had arrived at the accident site. Motorists crowded the scene, checking for survivors and assessing the damage. The crash also disrupted traffic along the highway.
The exact cause of the accident remains unclear, but witnesses confirmed that no other vehicles were involved.
Thika Road Accident
This incident comes just two days after a serious crash on Thika Road that left at least 13 people injured.
The accident happened on Friday, September 19, when two public service vehicles collided head-on. According to reports, one of the drivers swerved to avoid a donkey carrying water jerrycans, leading to the collision.
Several passengers were trapped in the wreckage before locals rescued them. One of the vehicles caught fire, but residents quickly extinguished the flames.
Both drivers sustained critical injuries. Seven passengers were seriously hurt, while six others escaped with minor injuries.
Police later towed the vehicles and restored normal traffic flow along the busy road.
Road Safety Concerns
The two accidents within days raise fresh concerns over road safety on Nairobi’s highways. Authorities are expected to issue updates as investigations continue.
