The Kenya Meteorological Department has announced that rainfall will persist in several parts of the country in the coming week, spanning Tuesday, May 20, to Monday, May 26, 2025. In its latest weather update, the department cited the Central Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Coast, Western, and North-western regions as the main areas expected to receive rainfall.
Despite the rains, temperatures in some regions are expected to remain high. Daytime highs of up to 30°C will dominate the Coast, North-eastern, North-western, and parts of the South-eastern lowlands. Conversely, night-time temperatures may drop below 10°C, particularly around the Central Highlands, Central Rift Valley, Western Kenya, and Mt Kilimanjaro.
In Nairobi, residents can expect mostly cloudy conditions with occasional sunny intervals. Temperatures will range between 15°C and 25°C. Mombasa will experience sunshine interspersed with showers, with temperatures between 25°C and 29°C. Kisumu and Eldoret will also have a mix of rain and sunshine, with Kisumu’s temperatures ranging from 19°C to 28°C, and Eldoret’s from 13°C to 22°C.
Other towns such as Nakuru and Nyeri will enjoy sunny intervals, with Nyeri also expecting rain. Nakuru’s temperatures will hover between 14°C and 25°C, while Nyeri will see 15°C to 23°C. Kakamega, Kericho, and Kisii are set for rains with sunny breaks, while Kitale and Narok will also have similar patterns.
In the drier northern and eastern regions, high temperatures will persist. Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, and Lodwar will see temperatures soaring to highs of 36°C to 38°C, with sunny intervals throughout the day.
The Coast, including Lamu, Malindi, and Voi, will experience a blend of sunshine and showers, with temperatures largely remaining above 25°C. Meanwhile, towns like Machakos, Meru, Kitui, and Makindu will see cloudy or partly cloudy skies with sunny spells.
The Kenya Met Department urges residents across the country to stay updated with the daily forecasts and take necessary precautions, especially in areas prone to flooding.
