The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned of continuous rainfall and chilly weather conditions in several parts of the country over the coming days. In its latest weather forecast, the department urged residents to brace for showers, thunderstorms, cloudy mornings, and low night temperatures depending on their regions.
According to the forecast, the Highlands to the east and west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and parts of northwestern Kenya will be most affected. Counties such as Kisumu, Nakuru, Kakamega, Kericho, and Bungoma are expected to receive afternoon showers and thunderstorms, with daytime temperatures averaging between 27°C and 29°C.
In northwestern Kenya, particularly Turkana and Samburu, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected alongside sunny intervals. Daytime highs will range from 31°C to 33°C, while cooler nights will dip to between 9°C and 13°C.
For the Highlands east of the Rift Valley including Nairobi, Nyeri, Kiambu, and Meru residents should prepare for cloudy, cold mornings, light showers, and chilly nights. Daytime temperatures will remain mild, ranging from 24°C to 26°C, while nighttime lows could drop to between 7°C and 11°C.
Counties in the north-eastern region Mandera, Garissa, Wajir, Marsabit, and Isiolo will experience mostly sunny intervals, though occasional showers are expected starting Sunday. However, these areas will remain hot, with daytime highs climbing to 37°C and night temperatures settling between 14°C and 16°C.
In the south-eastern lowlands, including Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta, mornings will be cloudy before giving way to sunny intervals. Light showers are expected on Sunday, with daytime temperatures averaging between 28°C and 30°C.
Coastal counties Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, and Lamuare predicted to experience showers in the mornings and evenings, with sunny spells during the day. Temperatures will stay warm, ranging from 29°C to 30°C during the day and 21°C to 22°C at night.
The Met Department has advised the public to remain cautious of fluctuating weather conditions, urging residents in colder regions to prepare for chilly nights while those in hot, dry areas take precautions against high daytime temperatures.
