The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has issued a fresh weather advisory warning of intensified rainfall expected to affect several parts of the country from Saturday, October 4, 2025, through Sunday.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), the department noted that the ongoing rains pounding different regions are set to continue with greater intensity, spreading to more areas over the weekend.
“Weather Update – Saturday, October 4, 2025: ongoing rains over several parts of the country are expected to continue today,” the department wrote.
Areas at Risk
According to the forecast, heavy rainfall is expected over the Highlands east and west of the Rift Valley, Nairobi, the Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley counties, and northwestern Kenya.
Nairobi County, in particular, is likely to experience very heavy rainfall of up to 50mm in 24 hours, accompanied by gusty winds. Kenya Met further cautioned that such conditions may result in localized flooding, including areas downstream where no rainfall has occurred directly.
Public Advisory
Kenyans have been urged to exercise caution during this period. The department advised residents to avoid crossing moving water, stay indoors during thunderstorms, and remain vigilant for sudden flooding.
“Stay alert; flooding may occur even downstream where rain hasn’t fallen. Avoid crossing moving water. Stay indoors during thunderstorms,” the advisory read.
The department also warned of possible structural and environmental damage caused by strong winds, which may uproot trees and damage property.
Forecast Maps Released
To enhance preparedness, Kenya Met has released forecast maps highlighting areas most likely to experience heavy downpours. These maps are designed to help both urban centres such as Nairobi and rural regions plan and mitigate the risks associated with the severe weather.
Residents and county authorities are urged to monitor updates closely and take necessary precautions to minimize the impact of the heavy rainfall.
