The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has announced that most parts of the country will experience dry and sunny conditions this week. The forecast, which runs from Tuesday, September 23, to Monday, September 29, 2025, indicates that only a few regions will receive rainfall.
According to KMD, showers are expected in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and parts of North-western Kenya. The rest of the country, including large parts of the Coast, North, and North-east, will remain hot and dry.
Temperature Outlook
The department highlighted significant temperature variations across regions.
- Highs of up to 30°C will be recorded in the Coast, North and North-western Kenya.
- Lows of up to 10°C are expected in the Central Highlands, Central Rift Valley, and the Mt. Kilimanjaro region.
- Mandera remains the hottest county, recently recording 38.6°C, while Nyahururu posted the lowest temperature at 5.0°C.
Winds and Safety Warnings
KMD also cautioned residents and businesses about strong winds exceeding 25 knots (12.86 m/s). These will affect the Coast, South-eastern lowlands, North-east, and North-west regions. The winds may pose risks to marine activities, transport, and infrastructure, and residents have been urged to take necessary precautions.
Rainfall Review
In its weekly review, the department reported that Kitale received 76.4mm of rain in seven days, with 59.0mm falling within 24 hours on September 20. Some parts of Nairobi and other regions also experienced heavy downpours last week.
Advisory to Residents
The Meteorological Department has assured Kenyans that it will continue to monitor conditions and issue timely updates. Residents in rainfall-prone areas are encouraged to remain alert to possible flooding, transport disruptions, and crop damage, while those in dry zones should prepare for high temperatures and strong winds.
KMD has urged the public to rely on official channels for weather updates and take appropriate safety measures.
