The Kenya Meteorological Department has released its weekly weather forecast, indicating significant rainfall and cool conditions in parts of the country, while strong winds and sunny intervals are expected in other regions.
According to the department, Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, and North-western Kenya will experience continued rain from Tuesday, August 19, to Saturday, August 23. This comes as part of a broader weather pattern affecting both daytime and nighttime conditions.
Residents of Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka, and Nairobi counties are advised to prepare for sunny mornings, followed by showers in the afternoons and evenings throughout the week. Temperatures in these areas are expected to range between a maximum of 24°C and a minimum of 7°C, reflecting the cooler highland conditions.
On the coast, Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and Tana River counties will enjoy day-long sunny weather, with nights expected to be cloudy. Maximum temperatures in these coastal regions are forecasted at 30°C, with minimums around 20°C, offering relatively warm and pleasant conditions.
In Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, and inland Tana River County, sunny intervals are expected during the day, while nights remain cloudy. Daytime temperatures will peak at 28°C, dipping to a minimum of 9°C at night.
Heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms are anticipated in Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot counties, with temperatures ranging from 8°C to 29°C.
Turkana and Samburu counties will also experience rain both during the day and night, with highs of 33°C and lows of 7°C. Meanwhile, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties are expected to have sunny intervals during the day and cloudy nights, with temperatures ranging from 14°C to 37°C.
Additionally, the department has warned that the Coast, South-eastern lowlands, North-eastern, and North-western regions will experience strong south-easterly winds exceeding 25 knots, posing potential hazards for maritime and coastal activities.
Residents across the country are urged to take necessary precautions, especially in rain-prone and windy areas, and to stay updated with the latest forecasts.
