Kenyans should brace for a week of varied weather conditions as the Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) forecasts a combination of rain, cold mornings, hot afternoons, and strong winds across different parts of the country.
In a forecast covering the period from Monday, July 1 to Sunday, July 7, 2025, the department has highlighted rainfall in several regions. Areas expected to receive rain include the Highlands east and west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, most parts of the Rift Valley, and the Coastal region. Parts of Northeastern and Northwestern Kenya may also experience showers. Rainfall intensities will vary, and the public, particularly those in flood-prone areas, are advised to exercise caution.
Besides the rainfall, cold and cloudy weather is likely in parts of the Highlands, especially those lying east and west of the Rift Valley. The South-eastern Lowlands and some parts of the Rift Valley may experience chilly mornings and evenings, with overcast skies prevailing during these periods.
Conversely, the North-eastern and North-western regions will experience hot afternoons, with temperatures projected to rise above 30°C. Residents in these areas are urged to stay hydrated and minimize prolonged exposure to the sun.
Night-time temperatures are expected to drop significantly in parts of the Central Highlands, the Central Rift Valley, and areas around Mt. Kilimanjaro, with some places recording temperatures below 10°C. The department advises residents in these areas, particularly the elderly and children, to keep warm to avoid cold-related illnesses.
The forecast also warns of strong winds blowing from the south and southeast at speeds exceeding 25 knots. These winds will mainly affect coastal regions, the South-eastern Lowlands, and parts of the Northeastern and Northwestern areas. The winds may impact marine activities and road safety, especially in open and flat landscapes.
Kenya Met urges the public to stay updated with daily forecasts and take the necessary precautions to stay safe and healthy amid the changing weather patterns.
