Residents of Nairobi are advised to bundle up as the city is expected to experience a significant drop in temperatures accompanied by strong winds throughout the day. According to the Kenya Meteorological Department, today’s weather will be marked by overcast skies, chilly conditions, and gusty winds, particularly in the early morning and late evening hours.
Temperatures are forecast to range between 11°C and 19°C, much lower than the average for this time of year. The cold spell is attributed to a combination of cloud cover and a strengthening south-easterly wind pattern affecting the central highlands. These winds are expected to reach speeds of up to 35 km/h in some parts of the city, increasing the chill factor and potentially disrupting outdoor activities.
Motorists and pedestrians are urged to exercise caution, especially in open areas and along major highways, as the strong winds may reduce visibility and create hazardous conditions. Parents are also encouraged to dress school-going children warmly to protect them from cold-related illnesses such as the flu and pneumonia.
Health officials are reminding the public to stay warm and hydrated, and to check on vulnerable individuals, particularly the elderly and young children, who are more susceptible to the effects of cold weather.
This cold and windy pattern is expected to persist for the next few days, with Nairobi residents advised to keep monitoring weather updates for any changes or advisories. The Kenya Meteorological Department will continue providing updates through official platforms.
