Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has issued a weekend weather advisory, warning residents in several regions of moderate to heavy rains from Friday, November 14, through Tuesday, November 19.
Counties in the Highland East region, including Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, and Nairobi, are expected to experience intermittent showers. Kenya Met forecasts that rains in these areas will start mid-morning, with short sunny spells before resuming in the afternoon and evening. Residents are advised to take precautions, especially motorists navigating flooded highways.
A similar pattern is expected in the Rift Valley and Lake Victoria basin counties, which include Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot. Rains in these areas are likely to be heavier, starting in the afternoon and continuing into the night, often accompanied by thunderstorms.
Light rains are also expected in the South-eastern lowland counties of Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta, as well as inland parts of Tana River County.
Temperature Outlook
While many regions will experience a mix of rainy and sunny weather, the Highland East counties are forecasted to have cold nights, with temperatures dropping to as low as 5°C. Conversely, the coastal counties of Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and parts of Tana River are expected to experience hot daytime temperatures reaching 33°C. Meanwhile, daytime highs of around 30°C are predicted for counties in the Rift Valley and Lake Victoria basin.
Kenya Met advises residents to stay updated on local weather conditions, drive cautiously during rains, and take necessary measures to protect property and personal safety as the weekend approaches.
