Air pollution levels in northern India continue to rise, with Delhi and Gurgaon experiencing poor to very poor air quality, while Bengaluru is expected to see temporary improvement thanks to rainfall.
Delhi Faces Fourth Day of Elevated Pollution
In Delhi, the Air Quality Index (AQI) near Akshardham reached 230, placing it in the ‘Poor’ category. This marks the fourth consecutive day of elevated pollution, raising health concerns for children, the elderly, and residents with respiratory conditions. Authorities have urged people to limit outdoor activities and wear masks when necessary.
Gurgaon Records ‘Very Poor’ Air Quality
Gurgaon reported the highest AQI in the region, with Sector 51 recording 342, classified as ‘Very Poor.’ The city’s overall AQI increased slightly to 266 from 260 the previous day. Local authorities continue to monitor pollution hotspots and advise residents to stay indoors where possible.
Bengaluru Expects Relief from Rain
Bengaluru is forecasted to see an improvement in air quality today, as rainfall is expected to reduce airborne pollutants. Meteorologists say the rain will provide temporary relief after recent periods of haze and smog.
Experts Call for Long-Term Solutions
While weather conditions like rain can temporarily alleviate pollution, experts emphasize the need for long-term measures to address sources such as vehicular emissions, industrial activity, and biomass burning. Sustainable policies and stricter enforcement are crucial to improving air quality across northern India.
