The Kenya Meteorological Department has announced that rainfall will persist across several parts of the country from Monday, June 2 to Monday, June 9, 2025. In a weather advisory issued on Tuesday, the Met Department identified the affected regions as the Central Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Coast, and Western Kenya.
According to the forecast, these regions will experience varying weather patterns throughout the week. In the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, and parts of the Rift Valley, residents should expect morning rains, afternoon showers accompanied by thunderstorms, and occasional night showers. Counties likely to be affected include Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot.
In the Central Highlands and areas east of the Rift Valley including Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi light rains are expected over a few areas in the morning, with afternoon showers and occasional night rain.
Meanwhile, the Coast region, covering Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Lamu, and coastal parts of Tana River County, will have showers over some areas in the morning, sunny intervals in the afternoon, and partly cloudy nights.
Despite the rains, high daytime temperatures exceeding 30°C will continue to be experienced in the Coastal, North-eastern, and North-western regions. Notably, night-time temperatures may fall below 10°C in parts of the Central Highlands, Central Rift Valley, and areas near Mt. Kilimanjaro.
In addition, the department has warned of strong winds exceeding 25 knots (12.86 m/s) over coastal waters, the South-eastern lowlands, and parts of North-eastern and North-western Kenya.
The North-eastern region including Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo — will generally remain sunny with occasional cloud cover at night. The South-eastern lowlands, comprising Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and inland Tana River County, will experience cloudy mornings that give way to sunny intervals, with partly cloudy conditions expected at night.
