President William Ruto is set to represent Kenya at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. The High-Level Week comes at a critical moment for multilateralism, bringing together world leaders to address pressing global challenges.
Ruto’s agenda focuses on three key areas: reforms in global finance, climate action, and international peace. He will reaffirm Kenya’s commitment to global cooperation while calling for a more inclusive international system that guarantees fair access to development finance for developing nations.
Championing Africa’s Voice
At the Committee of Ten (C-10) Summit, the President will lead Africa’s push for reforms at the UN Security Council. He is expected to stress the importance of equity and inclusivity in global decision-making, ensuring that Africa has a stronger role in peace and security discussions.
Peace and Security Priorities
Ruto will advance Kenya’s leadership in peacebuilding, with a strong focus on Sudan, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia, and Haiti. Kenya will host a high-level side event on Haiti to share lessons from its deployment under the Multinational Security Support Mission, guiding the next steps in global security cooperation.
Climate and Development
As Chair of the African Union’s Committee of Heads of State and Government on Climate Change (CAHOSCC), Ruto will consolidate Africa’s position ahead of COP30 in Brazil. He will also host a High-Level Breakfast on Affordable Housing, where over 30 Heads of State and Government will explore housing as a foundation for social transformation.
Bilateral Talks and Partnerships
Beyond multilateral forums, Ruto will hold bilateral meetings with world leaders, development partners, and industry executives. These engagements aim to attract investments in agriculture, technology, infrastructure, and energy under Kenya’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.
Through these initiatives, President Ruto seeks to position Kenya as a key player in shaping global reforms, building resilience, and driving sustainable development.
