Tropical Storm Ramil (international name Fengshen) has exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and is now moving west-northwestward over the West Philippine Sea, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
Widespread Rains and Flooding Across Regions
Before leaving the country, Ramil brought heavy rains, strong winds, and coastal flooding across several regions, including Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Ilocos, and the Cordillera Administrative Region. Parts of the Visayas also experienced severe weather conditions, with authorities reporting scattered power outages and road blockages caused by fallen trees and debris.
Evacuations and Disaster Response
Areas placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 were hit by gale-force winds, prompting precautionary evacuations in low-lying and coastal communities. Local disaster risk management offices remain on alert as flooding and landslides continue to threaten mountainous areas.
Storm Path and Future Monitoring
As Ramil moves farther into the South China Sea, meteorologists are monitoring its potential to intensify while tracking toward southern China or northern Vietnam. PAGASA has advised fishermen and small sea vessels to avoid venturing into rough seas along the western seaboards of Luzon.
Relief Efforts Underway
Government agencies have begun relief operations in affected areas, distributing aid and clearing blocked roads. Authorities continue to remind residents to stay alert for possible flash floods and landslides even after the storm’s exit.
