Makadara Member of Parliament George Aladwa has strongly condemned what he termed as “evil rumours” about the health of ODM party leader Raila Odinga. Speaking on Sunday, Aladwa accused opposition figures of spreading false information to undermine Raila’s image and political influence.
“I assure all ODM supporters and admirers of Raila that we are in touch with our leader. We know his whereabouts, his mission, and we know he is in good health,” said Aladwa.
The assurance follows widespread speculation triggered by reports that the 80-year-old former Prime Minister had travelled abroad for medical treatment. Raila’s spokesperson, Dennis Onyango, confirmed that he left the country on Friday night but dismissed claims that he was seeking medical attention in Europe.
“He definitely did not travel to Europe as reported by bloggers and broadcast by some media houses. He is not indisposed, as prayed for by his frustrated opponents,” Onyango clarified.
Aladwa further accused Raila’s political rivals of stooping to “an all-time low” by spreading malicious rumours about his health. “It is unfortunate that as Raila works with President William Ruto to stabilise the country and its economy, some politicians are so unhappy that they resort to praying for his death,” he said.
In response, Wiper Party Secretary General Shakila Abdalla dismissed ODM’s claims that the opposition was behind the rumours. “Let it be stated clearly that Kalonzo Musyoka harbours no ill will whatsoever toward Mr Odinga. The two leaders share a long public history of cooperation and mutual respect,” Abdalla stated.
Onyango reminded Kenyans that Raila has always been open about his health, citing his previous hospitalisations in 2010 and 2021. “He would do the same today were he to be unwell,” he said.
Aladwa urged ODM supporters to remain united and continue backing Raila’s efforts to promote peace, stability, and national cohesion through the broad-based government initiative.
