The Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women in Beijing has been hailed as a major opportunity to advance women’s empowerment globally, according to Amal Amaar, president of Egypt’s National Council for Women (NCW).
Speaking ahead of the two-day meeting scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, Amaar told Xinhua that the event offers a vital platform for nations to share experiences, assess progress, and discuss solutions for gender equality.
She expressed optimism that the meeting will inspire a renewed global agenda for women’s rights, similar to the landmark Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action adopted in 1995. “Thirty years have passed since the Beijing Declaration laid the groundwork for legislative efforts to strengthen and protect women’s rights,” Amaar said.
Amaar emphasized that the new meeting comes amid rapid global economic, political, and technological changes that require updated approaches to empowering women.
Highlighting Egypt-China relations, she praised China’s contributions to Egypt’s vocational and technical education programs, noting that Chinese training initiatives have significantly improved women’s skills, employability, and financial independence.
“China has successfully challenged educational stereotypes by introducing technical schools in areas like agriculture, construction, and e-commerce, empowering women economically,” Amaar noted.
She further commended China’s economic growth for its inclusive approach that has benefited women across various sectors.
Amaar concluded that the Beijing gathering represents a “golden opportunity” for the global community to reaffirm its commitment to gender equality and women’s advancement in the modern era.
