Israelis emerged from shelters on Sunday to scenes of devastation after another wave of Iranian missile attacks struck multiple locations across the country. The strikes, retaliation for a recent U.S.-backed Israeli assault on Iran’s nuclear facilities, left significant destruction in cities including Tel Aviv, Haifa, and Ness Ziona.
In the Ramat Aviv neighborhood near Tel Aviv, homes were reduced to skeletal frames amid piles of debris. “Our entire house was destroyed there’s nothing left,” said Aviad Chernichovsky, who had rushed to a shelter before the impact. First responders combed through the rubble, helping evacuate elderly residents and treat the injured. One woman, bleeding from the face, was visibly shaken as paramedics assisted her.
Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai, surveying the wreckage, confirmed, “Those who were in the shelter are all safe and well. The damage is very, very extensive, but in terms of human life, we are okay.” The Israeli military reported that two salvos of missiles were launched around 7:30 a.m., and more than 450 projectiles were intercepted. However, dozens penetrated the defenses, causing extensive structural damage.
In Haifa, a public square bore the brunt of the attack, with storefronts smashed and entire building facades collapsed. The Israeli police also responded to another impact site in Ness Ziona, south of Tel Aviv. Alarming questions arose after sirens failed to sound in Haifa. The army confirmed an investigation into a possible air defense malfunction.
Iran’s military claimed responsibility for Sunday’s barrage, stating that it targeted several high-profile sites, including Ben Gurion Airport, using advanced long-range missiles equipped with powerful warheads.
The ongoing conflict has seen Israel’s air defense systems stretched thin, intercepting a combined total of over 1,000 drones and hundreds of missiles. Despite the technological prowess of these defenses, the sustained attacks have overwhelmed them, leading to significant property loss.
As the situation continues to escalate, Israeli authorities remain on high alert, with emergency crews working round-the-clock to assess the damage and safeguard civilians amid an intensifying regional conflict.
