Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo has strongly condemned attempts by some political figures to exploit recent tragedies in the county for political mileage. Speaking amid growing concern over recent incidents that have rocked the region, the governor urged residents to remain calm and not fall victim to divisive narratives.
In an official statement, Governor Guyo extended his condolences to the family of Halima Ware, who died alongside her four children in a devastating fire. He revealed that police investigations had identified the cause of the fire as a domestic dispute, adding that Halima had previously reported threats to her life.
“This heartbreaking incident has shaken us all,” Guyo said. “It is disheartening that such a painful moment is being misused for political gain.”
The governor also addressed the recent death of local blogger Ismail Abdikadir, who died in a hit-and-run involving a lorry. According to police and eyewitness reports, the death was a traffic-related accident. However, Guyo lamented that some individuals were falsely linking the tragedy to his administration without any supporting evidence.
“Despite eyewitness accounts and police confirming the nature of the incident, certain individuals chose to politicize his death,” he stated. “This is unfair and irresponsible.”
Guyo reassured Isiolo residents that investigations into both incidents were ongoing, and that those responsible would be brought to justice. He emphasized the need for unity during this difficult period and reiterated his administration’s commitment to maintaining security and supporting affected families.
“These incidents have left families grieving and communities anxious,” the governor said. “We stand with every family affected and remain committed to restoring security and peace.”
He concluded by urging the public to remain vigilant but not fall for misinformation being spread for political purposes. “We are working closely with security agencies to ensure justice is served and that Isiolo remains a safe home for all its residents.”
The governor’s call for calm comes as Isiolo continues to grapple with insecurity concerns, with residents looking to leadership for assurance and stability.
