Kamala Harris has revealed tensions with Joe Biden in her upcoming memoir, 107 Days. The book provides an inside look at her 2024 presidential campaign and her frustrations while preparing to face Donald Trump.
Tense Call Before the Debate
Harris writes that just hours before a key debate in Philadelphia, Biden called her. While he claimed to wish her luck, he quickly focused on his own concerns. He mentioned that his brother had spoken to powerful figures in Philadelphia, who were reportedly hesitant to support Harris because of her criticisms of him. Harris asked to speak to the group directly but found the conversation distracting.
“It was like a big prizefight,” Harris writes. “I just couldn’t understand why he would call me, right now, and make it all about himself.” Her husband, Doug Emhoff, advised her to focus on the debate instead of Biden’s concerns.
Criticism of Biden’s Leadership
Harris also critiques Biden’s handling of major issues. After the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, she says Biden struggled to address reproductive rights effectively. She also notes that his verbal stumbles were more frequent and his campaign skills weaker than his governing ability.
Frustrations and Resilience
The memoir recounts tense moments within the administration, including being criticized for delivering speeches too well and navigating loyalty questions. Harris also faced sexist and racist attacks from Trump but refused to take the bait.
107 Days gives readers a candid look at Harris’s campaign, highlighting both political challenges and her personal resilience under pressure.
