The Government of Kenya has welcomed the peace initiative by the Quad Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States aimed at restoring peace and security in Sudan.
In a statement released on Monday, Kenya described the initiative as a positive step that should be embraced by all parties involved in the conflict. Nairobi emphasized that the crisis in Sudan requires strong cooperation at national, regional, and international levels.
Kenya reaffirmed its support for a coordinated response involving IGAD, the African Union, the United Nations, the Arab League, and other global partners. The government stressed the importance of unifying various peace efforts into an African-led process supported internationally.
“The Quad meeting is a positive initiative that should be embraced by all parties to the conflict in Sudan. The unprecedented crisis calls for collective efforts at national, regional, and global levels to achieve a peaceful resolution,” the statement said.
Kenya reiterated that there is no military solution to the conflict. Both the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) were urged to engage in political dialogue and negotiation. Kenya also joined the Quad in calling for respect for Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity while rejecting attempts to divide the country.
The government expressed concern over extremist groups and external military support, which worsen instability in Sudan. On the humanitarian front, Kenya called for urgent international action to enforce a ceasefire and allow aid delivery to affected populations. The country pledged continued facilitation of humanitarian supplies through its territory.
Kenya also supported the proposed nine-month timeline for a Sudanese-led process that will lead to an independent, civilian-led government. The statement affirmed Kenya’s commitment to working with regional and global partners to help the Sudanese people achieve lasting peace, stability, and democratic governance.
