Eight Hungarian nationals are among the eleven people who perished in a tragic plane crash in Kwale County on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.
In a statement, Mombasa Air Safari confirmed that its aircraft, registration number 5Y-CCA, went down while operating a scheduled flight from Diani Airport to Kichwa Tembo Airstrip in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve.
“Mombasa Air Safari Limited deeply regrets to confirm that one of our aircraft, registration number 5Y-CCA, was involved in an accident today while operating a scheduled flight from Diani Airport to Kichwa Tembo, Maasai Mara,” the airline said.
Preliminary reports indicate that the plane was carrying 10 passengers eight Hungarians, two Germans and one Kenyan crew member, who was the captain. Sadly, there were no survivors.
“We are profoundly saddened to report that, according to preliminary information, there were 10 passengers and one crew member on board. Sadly, there are no survivors,” the airline added.
The company expressed deep sorrow and extended heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives in the crash.
“Our hearts and prayers are with all those affected by this tragic event,” the statement read.
Following the tragedy, Mombasa Air Safari said it had activated its emergency response team and is fully cooperating with the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) and other relevant agencies, which have launched investigations into the cause of the crash.
The airline has also established a Family Assistance Team to provide psychological counselling, logistical coordination, and other necessary support to the victims’ families.
“Our primary focus right now is on supporting the affected families. We will provide further updates in coordination with investigating authorities,” the airline concluded.
