Marjorie Taylor Greene’s abrupt decision to leave Congress on 5 January has sent shockwaves across the American political landscape. Her resignation, triggered by a highly publicized fallout with President Donald Trump, has sparked wide speculation about her next chapter.
Greene’s departure ends a tumultuous five-year tenure marked by fiery rhetoric, staunch conservatism and, in recent months, open defiance of the Trump administration—especially over the refusal to release files related to the late Jeffrey Epstein. The escalating rift culminated in Trump labelling her “a traitor” and vowing to support her 2026 primary challenger.
A Future Presidential Bid?
Despite reports hinting at presidential ambitions, Greene has forcefully denied any interest in running for the White House in 2028. While some political insiders, including Democrat Ro Khanna, see her as a potentially formidable contender, she insists such claims are “a complete lie”.
Even so, Greene’s growing separation from Trump and the GOP establishment has fueled theories that she may still consider higher national office one day.
Governor or Senate in 2026?
Two more realistic political avenues could be the Georgia governorship or a US Senate seat. With Governor Brian Kemp term-limited in 2026 and Senator Jon Ossoff up for re-election, Greene may see an opening.
However, analysts caution that her popularity is largely confined to her congressional district. Statewide races, they argue, could prove far more challenging—especially without Trump’s endorsement.
A Shift to Conservative Media?
If Greene steps away from electoral politics, a transition into media appears highly plausible. Experts predict she could launch a podcast or join a network as a conservative commentator. Her frequent appearances on CNN and ABC’s The View suggest she may already be testing the waters.
Leaving Politics Completely
In her resignation video, Greene hinted she might leave public life to focus on her family and her construction business, Taylor Commercial, which has handled over $250 million in projects.
Whether she steps into media, attempts a comeback or retreats from public office entirely, Greene’s next move will remain one of the most closely watched stories in US conservative politics.
