Prince Harry has spoken out about his memoir Spare, saying he has “no regrets” about publishing the book despite the tensions it created in the royal family.
No Dirty Laundry
In an interview with the Guardian, released on Sunday, Harry dismissed claims that he used the memoir to attack his family.
“I don’t believe that I aired my dirty laundry in public,” he said. “It was a difficult message, but I did it in the best way possible. My conscience is clear.”
A Bestselling Tell-All
Spare, released in January 2023, offered a deeply personal look at Harry’s life as a prince. It revealed struggles with grief, mental health, and family conflicts. The book became an instant bestseller, praised for its honesty but also criticized for exposing royal life.
Harry insisted the memoir was never about revenge. Instead, he said it was about setting the record straight.
“The book was a series of corrections to stories already out there. One point of view had been put out and it needed to be corrected,” he explained.
Hopes for Reconciliation
The Duke of Sussex last saw his father in February 2024, when he rushed to the UK after King Charles III revealed his cancer diagnosis. The King is still receiving treatment.
Harry admitted he still hopes for reconciliation, though he is uncertain about the future. “I don’t know how much longer my father has,” he previously said.
Speaking Out Despite Criticism
Speaking from Kyiv, where he was visiting for charity work, Harry said he knows his decision to speak openly has upset some people.
“I know that speaking out annoys some people and it goes against the narrative,” he said. “But staying silent wasn’t an option.”
For Harry, Spare was not revenge. It was a way to reclaim his truth and demand accountability.
