Prince Harry has made a surprise visit to Kyiv to support Ukrainians affected by the war with Russia. The Duke of Sussex said he wants to do “everything possible” to help injured military personnel recover.
The visit was organized by Superhumans, an organization that provides prosthetic limbs and rehabilitation to people injured in the war. Harry previously visited a Superhumans center in Lviv in April. This is his first trip to Ukraine’s capital.
Helping Soldiers and Civilians Recover
Prince Harry said in an interview with The Guardian:
“We cannot stop the war but what we can do is everything we can to help the recovery process. We can continue to humanize the people involved in this war and what they are going through.”
During his visit, he is expected to announce new plans to support rehabilitation for wounded soldiers.
Harry is accompanied by a team from the Invictus Games Foundation, which he launched in 2014. The foundation helps wounded veterans compete in sports events. In 2022, Ukraine was granted special permission to compete in the games after the Russian invasion began.
Charitable Support for Injured Children
The visit comes after the Sussexes’ Archewell Foundation donated $500,000 (£369,000) to projects for injured children from Ukraine and Gaza.
The grants will help the World Health Organization with medical evacuations and fund the development of prosthetics for young people.
Royal Family Support for Ukraine
Other members of the Royal Family have shown support for Ukraine.
- King Charles welcomed President Zelensky to Sandringham in March, calling Russia’s actions “indescribable aggression.”
- Prince William visited Ukrainian refugees in Estonia in March and praised their resilience.
Prince Harry’s visit highlights his long-standing commitment to supporting injured veterans and those affected by war.
