Prince William has revealed that he plans to bring meaningful change to the monarchy when he eventually takes the throne. Speaking in a candid interview with actor Eugene Levy for Apple TV+’s The Reluctant Traveller, the Prince of Wales said that his vision of kingship embraces adaptation while respecting tradition.
“I think it’s safe to say that change is on my agenda,” William explained. “Change for good, and I embrace that. I enjoy that change. I don’t fear it – that’s the bit that excites me.” He made it clear that his approach would not be “overly radical,” but focused on ensuring the monarchy remains relevant and impactful.
The conversation, filmed at Windsor Castle, offered viewers one of the most personal glimpses into William’s thoughts to date. Arriving to meet Levy on an electric scooter, the Prince gave him a tour of the historic royal residence while reflecting on the weight of history. “If you’re not careful, history can be a real weight and an anchor around you. It’s important to live for the here and now,” he said.
Alongside his reflections on tradition, William spoke candidly about family life, the strain of coping with his father and wife’s cancer diagnoses, and how he and Princess Catherine support their children. “We try to make sure we give them the security and the safety that they need,” he said.
The Prince also touched on lessons from his own upbringing, stressing he would “do everything” to avoid a repeat of the intrusive media practices he and his brother Harry experienced as children.
Ending the day with Levy at a Windsor pub over pints of cider and Guinness, William summed up his vision: to create a world his children can be proud of. His remarks reinforce his commitment to balance—modernizing the monarchy while upholding the traditions that give it meaning.
