Trump Lands in the UK for State Visit
President Donald Trump has arrived in the UK for his second state visit. He was welcomed at Stansted Airport by Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper and other officials. Trump called the visit an “honor” and said, “My relationship is very good with the UK.”
Royal Ceremonies at Windsor Castle
The main purpose of Trump’s visit is to meet King Charles, whom he described as “an elegant gentleman.” Trump and First Lady Melania will stay at the US ambassador’s residence, Winfield House, before attending royal events at Windsor Castle.
The visit will include a ceremonial welcome with King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William, and Catherine. There will be a gun salute, military inspection, and a carriage procession within the Windsor estate. Trump has expressed enthusiasm for the royal pageantry, calling Windsor “the ultimate” setting.
Trade Talks and Technology Deals
Economic cooperation is a key focus. US tech firms will invest £31bn in the UK, including £22bn from Microsoft. The deal covers artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and nuclear power. Alphabet, Google’s parent company, is also investing £5bn in UK AI research.
The UK hopes to use the visit to encourage the US to maintain its commitment to NATO and support Ukraine. However, ambitions to remove the 25% tariff on UK steel exports are on hold for now.
Security and Protests
Security is tight during the visit. Protesters have projected images of Trump and Jeffrey Epstein onto Windsor Castle. Thames Valley Police arrested four people for the unauthorized display. Most events will take place privately at Windsor Castle or Chequers, limiting public access.
A Personal Touch
Trump described the UK as “a very special place” and praised the King as a long-time friend. Alongside trade and diplomacy, the visit blends soft power and royal charm to strengthen US-UK relations.
